Allstate Insurance Co. has filed suit against the Florida Institute

A Florida neurologic clinic that specializes in treating patients with traumatic brain and spinal cord injuries is being sued by a major automotive insurance company for more than $7 million in false claims stemming from charges it abused patients, failed to provide treatment, and kept them hospitalized without medical justification.

USI Insurance Services acquired TD Insurance, Inc

USI Insurance Services ("USI") has entered into a share purchase agreement to acquire TD Insurance, Inc. (“TDI Inc.”), a wholly-owned US subsidiary of TD Bank, N.A. TDI Inc. is one of the largest bank-owned insurance agencies and brokerage firms in the US offering a wide range of insurance and employee benefits products and services. This acquisition is expected to contribute $58.2 million in revenues to USI on an annual basis.

Great American Insurance Group Launches new Public Sector

Great American Insurance Group announced the launch of its Public Sector Alternative Risk Division.  This Division will offer a comprehensive list of coverages in the reinsurance and excess insurance markets for Pools, Trusts, Joint Powers Authorities (JPAs ), Reciprocals and Captives  in the Public Entity space. Targeted classes include: municipalities, schools, counties, housing authorities, and other special service districts with minimum self- insured retentions of $100,000. Coverage is available in all 50 states.

Munich Re has finished a first half-year earnings near $2 Billion

Munich Re’s second quarter earnings report notes that it achieved a consolidated profit of €812 million [$1.007 billion], compared to the €738 million [$915.12 million] it reported in Q2 2011. The report indicated that “underwriting business performed well,” as it also did in the first quarter of the year, and “the investment result showed a marked improvement on the same period of the previous year.”

The Insurance Industry Charitable Foundation (IICF) Western Division awards $74,407 in community grants. Marking its second round of grant funding for 2012, the IICF Western Division increases its yearly grant contributions to $261,534, supporting 51 separate non-profit organizations located across California and Colorado.

Mortgage insurer MGIC's shares plunged 64%

Shares of MGIC Investment Corp. plunged 64% Thursday -- to 88 cents from $2.45 -- after the Milwaukee-based mortgage insurer reported a wider second-quarter loss. MGIC posted a loss of $273.9 million, or $1.36 a share, compared with a loss of $151.7 million, or 75 cents, in second quarter 2011. It was the eighth consecutive quarterly loss for the company.
